We’re hiring a Director of Content.

The Role

As Director of Content, you will be at the heart of shaping and growing the business whilst overseeing, and being responsible for, all our content output. You will be managing a creative production team, constantly looking for new opportunities, pitching to clients and delivering a strategy which is underpinned by your vision for producing award-winning and hugely successful programmes.

Responsibilities

The below is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities and nor is it set in stone. We are looking for someone who wants to shape the content vision for the business and work collaboratively with senior colleagues to achieve a set of shared goals.

Creative

  • Develop, implement, and own a creative strategy across Listen’s entire output.
  • On your own and with your team, generate the best and most appropriate content ideas in line with the strategy.
  • Be the face and voice of Listen’s creativity, both internally and externally.
  • Hire the best creatives to build your team, whether staff or freelance, in development and production roles.

Production

  • Ensure that the highest production values are maintained whilst projects are run on budget and on time.
  • Advise, support, and direct the Executive Producers to manage the Executive Production functions of the business (including some direct activity on key projects).
  • Ultimate responsibility for: project business affairs and compliance; production Health & Safety; project finances (from budget stage to cost report and reconciliation).
  • Work effectively with the finance team to provide accurate data in a timely way, enabling effective monitoring of projects in development and production

People Management

  • Direct line management of the senior creative and production teams.
  • Broader leadership and inspiration of the entire production team (staff and freelance).

Company

  • Devise an annual forecast for all content production measured against targets for sales and profitability.
  • Play a leading role in driving new business: seeking out new opportunities, building and utilising existing relationships with platforms, commissioners and brands, and inspiring your team to successfully respond to briefs.
  • Negotiate with all production stakeholders, including: broadcasters, commissioners, and talent agents.
  • Manage departmental legal and business affairs.
  • Proactively contribute to the development of whole company culture.
  • Play an active role in company Diversity & Inclusion initiatives.

This is a leadership role. We are looking for someone who:

  • Has significant experience within audio content production at the highest level.
  • Is creatively driven. Regularly develops their own ideas and is motivated to inspire a team of creatives to develop wide-ranging, best-in-class and ambitious ideas.
  • Has a wealth of line management experience. Leading creative and production teams is second nature to you with a style that means that people want to work for you.
  • Is used to setting goals and being measured against financial criteria.
  • Is most comfortable in a creative setting but equally understands the importance of a budget and a legal agreement in the content production process.
  • Has their own deep-rooted relationships with a range of commissioners.
  • Has a black book full of the best production talent (staff and freelance).
  • Is entrepreneurial in spirit – motivated to win work and grow the business.
  • Is experienced in pitching to clients and thrives presenting creative ideas.
  • Has experience working on branded content.
  • Is aligned with our vision of the importance of a 360 digital strategy that grows audiences and brings our programmes to life in an ecosystem beyond audio.
  • Has a strong understanding of the current podcast landscape.

Salary:

The role will attract a competitive salary, the exact scale of which will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience.
